Fujifilm X-E3 Review

The Fujifilm X-E3 is the company’s latest X-mount camera, equipped with an APS-C-sized sensor capable of shooting high-quality 4k ( UHD ) video. I’ve reviewed the Fujifilm digital camera X-PRO2, X-T2, X-T20, and GFX 50S and think they’re good cameras, but the Fuji X-E3s plus mainly focus levers and LCD touch screens. It is an excellent camera that is easy to use due to its addition. In addition, the autofocus function and excellent video quality are also noteworthy in the Fujifilm X-E3 trying to deliver a review.

Fujifilm X-E3 Mirrorless Digital Camera w/XF18-55mm Lens

Fujifilm lent me a sample product, and I was able to try it for a few days, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you. The following was found by reviewing.

Ergonomic usability

The first thing that surprised me was that it was so lightweight that I wondered if the parcel I sent contained a camera. It will be a great advantage in terms of portability.

Secondly, the grip on the right hand is comfortable. The button layout on the back and the new response focus stick are straightforward. The front focus mode selector (Manual / Continues / Single) is also in a very logical location.

What I understood by using

The focus lever worked almost perfectly when used in combination with autofocus mode. Place the marker where you want it to focus, and it will become the focal point. Overall, the autofocus system worked well in most cases. You will also benefit significantly from this AF mode when used with a gimbal.

The new LCD monitor is bright enough for outdoor use, but more importantly, it’s now a touch screen. The touched point becomes the focal point, making it very easy to use. However, since the LCD screen is fixed, it becomes difficult to see if the camera position is high or low.

Perhaps the biggest weakness of this camera is the lack of image stabilization. When shooting handheld, combining it with a lens with image stabilization is recommended.

Menu

The Fujifilm digital camera X-E3 has a menu structure similar to the company’s recent cameras, but unique items still require digging into the menu. However, you can assign frequently used items to the FN button, so you don’t have to dig into the menu often. By the way, the LCD itself can also be assigned (equivalent to four FN buttons), and you can assign it to the gesture of swiping in any of the four directions.

Video function

The X-E3 offers different frame rates for video frame rates and resolutions, each when recording in UHD 4K, FHD, or HD resolutions. Unfortunately, the maximum value you can shoot with UHD 4K is 29.97fps. This camera has worldwide specifications and can change the frame rate between 50Hz and 60Hz. I haven’t tested the image quality in 1080p shooting mode, but you can expect good quality, just like any other company’s cameras today. The UHD4k has a recording rate of only 100Mbps, but the color fidelity is very high.

One thing to remember when shooting in 4K is that you can only record continuously for 10 minutes. (15 minutes for FHD, 30 minutes for 720p). Also, since F-log is not supported internally or externally, there is only one way to substitute it with film stock simulation.

Regarding audio, this camera, like the X-Pro2  and X-T20, has a non-standard 2.5mm remote/audio mic jack and no headphone socket. You can adjust the audio level during recording.

Functional

Regarding battery charging, the company’s charging display has repeatedly been commented on. Turning on the green light while charging and turning it off when it is complete would be unclear. I want you to meet the global standard.

I’ve known the company’s camera menu for a long time. Assigning video-related features to various buttons, especially the “Q” button, is handy. The “Q” button is convenient when you need quick access to various shooting parameters.

Also, it was a pleasant surprise to switch between LCD and EVF, even during recording. It’s a slight improvement, but you can switch between LCD and EVF when shooting, so this tiny function can be a big improvement.

The low-light characteristics make the image very beautiful, even at ISO 3200. Even with ISO 6400, there is some noise, but the picture is gorgeous enough. The EVF is straightforward to use, and the light meter is accurate and effective.

  • There is no in-camera image stabilization
  • There is no headphone jack
  • Non-standard 2.5mm audio microphone input
  • 10 minutes recording time limit in 4K (15 minutes in FHD)
  • The battery / SD card slot is too close to the tripod mounting screw and needs to be removed from the tripod when replacing the battery or card
  • It takes a few seconds to save the clip after recording
  • Average rolling shutter performance

The lens used in this review was the company’s XF 16-55mm f2.8 R LM WR. This lens is the company’s main product, 24mm to 84mm in full-frame conversion, and is fixed at f / 2.8

The advantages and disadvantages of combining with Fujifilm camera X-E3 are also described.

Strong Points

  • Excellent sharpness over the entire zoom range
  • Manual aperture ring
  • f / 2.8 Constant aperture
  • All-weather design
  • High-speed focus motor

Disadvantages

  • No optical image stabilization
  • heavy

summary

In the Fujifilm X-E3 review, I felt that it was the best mirrorless still camera Fujifilm had ever worked on to shoot video. It is an affordable camera with video quality, accurate autofocus in video mode, and portability. It’s a shame that the X-E3 didn’t include a picture profile for the log.

It’s even more regrettable because the camera’s performance was good. If you want a camera that can shoot video on a low budget, this is an excellent camera to recommend. The difference between the X-T20 and the more expensive Fuji X-E3 is about $ 100. If you must choose between them, you’ll select the Fujifilm X-E3.
